di Luca Bianchini, Anna Trombetta (Autore)
What happened after 1791? How was Mozart's myth created? The creation of the
genius was initially used to face the economic difficulties of Constanze, the young
widow. It was then used by publishing houses for profit. Resumed in the Romantic
age to bring out the national hero, it appeared again in the 20th century to make
Germany great and prove it was the nation of music. Mozart's myth has served all
these things, and now Mozart has become just a label, a trademark. Mozart-branded
products enjoy wide popularity and are widely known. Bianchini and Trombetta
investigated biographical facts, works, and writings, bringing to light an upsetting
truth: Mozart's Thematic Catalogue, apparently in Mozart's handwriting, starting
from February 9th 1784 to November 15th 1791, is a forgery of the late 18th century
and served to consolidate the myth of the genius. A complementary study on that
Thematic catalogue, presented in September 2022 by Professor Martin Jarvis of
Darwin University at the Australian & New Zealand Forensic Science Society
Symposium, confirms the findings of Bianchini and Trombetta.
The book 'Mozart, The construction of a Genius' was adopted in semiology courses
at the Bari Conservatory.
